Information: Volunteer

Our work at The AIDS Project would not be possible without the generous support of our more than 100 volunteers, all with various talents and backgrounds. Training is conducted three times a year and never fails to produce many strong friendships. Consider joining our friendly, energetic and committed group. We need your help!

Some volunteer opportunities include:
  • Office Assistant
Volunteers assist the paid staff with filing, reception, copying, assembling outreach and education materials.
  • Client Service Team
Some volunteers are trained to provide direct service to people living with HIV/AIDS. The team functions as a support network for our clients and families. Responsibilites include transportation to appointments, serving as a "buddy" for clients and their families.
  • Prevention Education
Educators develop, evaluate and present programs and instructions to audiences such as organizations, students, and community leaders. A great source to enhance your public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Student AIDS Educators (SAE)
Groups of high school students provide educational programs for their peers in high schools in the area. They meet regularly to plan, evaluate and revise programs to suit their peers.
  • Risk Reduction Counselors/HIV Testing
Some volunteers receive additional training to conduct client-centered counseling sessions with an emphasis on risk reduction and behavior change. Risk Reduction Counselors provide free and anonymous HIV Testing in conjunction with the PA Department of Health.
  • Outreach Task Force
Outreach volunteers conduct Individual and Group Outreach. Emphasis is place on risk reduction for targeted risk populations. Outreach volunteers provide risk assessments and work with members of the community to reduce rate of HIV transmission. Outreach is more informal than education presentations.
