How to become a Volunteer for The AIDS Project.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- Am I able to commit to 10 hours/month of service for one full year?
- Am I interested in performing such duties as office reception, general clerical functions, transporting clients to medical appointments, possibly training to become a HIV test counselor, helping others reduce their risk for HIV transmission, assisting with agency fundraising activities, or staffing an education table at public health fairs?
- Am I able to participate in a comprehensive training program that will enable me to perform volunteer duties at The AIDS Project?
Apply to attend our training. The training consists of 18 hours of group training sessions. Topics include:
- The AIDS Project’s expectations of volunteers
- Introduction to The AIDS Project and services offered by the agency
- HIV/AIDS basic information
- How HIV is transmitted
- How HIV transmission can be prevented
- How to provide risk-reduction counseling for the prevention of HIV transmission
- Sensitivity training on the multi-cultural issues affecting HIV prevention and treatment
- Treatment of HIV disease
- Psychosocial issues of living with HIV/AIDS
- HIV/AIDS statistics
